About ImproVolutionS:
ImproVolutions is a multi-generational movement theater improvisation collaborative informed by AVA's movement quality paradigm of Authentic Vibrant Awareness. Led by Artistic Director Michelle Ava, ImproVolutions is committed to developing the art of Improv through technique, experience, and performance, and to educating others to the benefits, fun, and joy derived from Improvisational exploratory interactions. ImproVolutions is inspired by the acclaimed Free Association Improv company popular in the 70's -80', of which Michelle was a founding member. Free Association, along with her long-term collaboration with artist performer Jack Guidone, paved the way for Michelle's exploration into the world of experimental movement theater upon which ImproVolutions is based. The performers come from a wide diversity of performing, expressive and spiritual arts backgrounds and create a unique synergy resulting in surprising, original and exciting co-creations performed in the street and on stage. The core company is often complemented with "pick up" larger casts, comprised of people of various levels of experience, producing surprising, original and exciting results.
At it's heart, Improvisation is a "team sport" open to all who believe in the positive power of creating movement art in the moment, in the "now" and of having something wonderful emerge from the will of the collective spirit and personal expression. ImproVolutions provides classes workshops and performs in senior community centers and school. Recent perfromances have Capital Fringe Fest, Dance is Answer, VisArts Center, Atlas Performing Arts Center. Come and join ImproVolutions for an Improv Jam every Saturday 3:00-4:30 p.m. at JOMDC Friendship Heights. ImproVolutionsis a project of AVAdance and an arts partner of Joy of Motion Dance Center WDC.
