Have you ever mixed apples and oranges, or tried to place a square peg into a round hole? What about making lemonade out of lemons? What happens?
When we are faced with change, disappointments, loss, gain, paradoxes, or irony, we must create. We must create the space and place for creative problem solving, calling upon the serendipity of mixing, matching, and random selection in order for insights to occur and the "unexpected new" to emerge.
In this re imagination of 2017's popular "TURIYA," Michelle Ava of AVAdance coheres a diverse collective of artists representing a variety of genres. Together, they weave dance theatre stories into an evening fusing choreography, improvisation and spoken word, sharing interpretations of adapting to life's ever-changing moving pieces.

Letter to he JOMDC Community 6/18
Dear Joy of Motion Dance Center Friends,
As founder of Joy of Motion Dance Center/1976 (JOMDC), I am reaching out to the community to clarify my relationship with JOM, to alleviate any misconceptions about my role, and to share a way I am able to support JOM moving forward.
Throughout the decades and especially as of late, there have been changes in executive management, which included re-prioritizing and new directions for JOM. As a result, my formal affiliation and professional position has changed. I no longer have authority to affect policy, or make administrative or artistic executive decisions. I say this in response to well-intended and curious friends and colleagues who have approached me with questions regarding JOM’s current philosophy and direction, often assuming I have leadership authority.
As happens in organizations, JOM is again undergoing changes. To provide an opportunity for the community to share their concerns and suggestions, JOM created Community Conversations. I , along with the community at large have been invited to participate in these conversations, and I do so happily in support of JOM’s positive forward motion. If you have thoughts you would like to share with JOMDC, you might like to attend on Wednesday, June 27, 6:00-7:30PM, JOM Bethesda, and/ or feel free to contact me with your ideas that I can bring to the group meeting.
I am happy to share your thoughts and suggestions as much as possible.
JOM will always be close to my heart. I am committed to the continuation and continuous improvement of this unique and vital organization, founded on the philosophy that dance – and joy – is for everyone.
"In the spirit of joy, we engage in uplifting explorations of movement, to share our artistic and educational gifts, and together generously, kindly connect technically, creatively and peacefully commune with one another for the highest good of all concerned. It is from this connection, exchange and interactions, that we share with the world from this platform of our intrinsic core values… moving into the evolution of dance and gracefully embracing, the joy of motion within us"
~ Original JOMDC vision statement written by Michelle Ava, Founder, 1976
Thank you for your support of JOMDC~

Breathe deeply… feel the dance. Move from stillness… become the dance. Taste the rhythm… be the dance. Open the heart… we are the dance. -Michelle
